About This Tea

Matcha Okumidori is made purely from a single tea cultivar, Okumidori (奥緑), which means “deep green.” Okumidori is celebrated for its deep and vibrant emerald green color. Okumidori is amongst the latest of the tea cultivars to be harvested in spring and it develops a deep umami sweetness in perfect harmony with a rich and lasting aroma.

Organic Matcha Okumidori is cultivated in the natural beauty of Kirishima Mountain, a region in Southern Japan’s Kyushu Island that is noted for its black volcanic soil and rich tasting organic teas.

This batch is from organic first flush tencha that was freshly stone-milled and air shipped to our USA-based matcha freezer to provide the best organic matcha experience.

Renowned throughout Japan as pioneers of organic green tea cultivation, the Nishi family has been our strongest partner for organic sencha and organic matcha since 2006. Every year, the Nishi family produces exclusive allocations of organic sencha and organic matcha for us. This Nishi family grows more than a dozen different green tea cultivars all with unique characteristics and nuances that make our blends really stand out. Our long standing relationship with the Nishi family allows us to select the very best micro-lots and fine tune our sencha and matcha blends each year. The Nishi Organic Tea Farm consists of many different gardens secluded in pine and cedar forests of Kirishima Mountain, an active volcano on Kyushu, Island. The densely forested area where these amazing tea farms are located provides a natural buffer zone that protects the tea gardens from industrial pollution.

    THE Best

By far the best matcha I've had (and I've tried A LOT!). It's super smooth, creamy, flavorful, and gives me energy for the day. No bitterness or astringency. Excellent quality and mouthfeel.
