Rishi’s South Asian teas, including some of the most prized selections of Himalayan teas, are shaped by elevation, harvest timing and the distinct microclimates found across mountain tea gardens. We source our Himalayan teas directly from these microclimates, with elevations often exceeding 1500 meters.

Their profiles range from bright and floral to coppery, rounded and fruit-toned. 

Many of our loose leaf teas from South Asia are small batch, limited edition Garden Direct selections that reflect the terrain, season and craft of their origins. First Flush Darjeeling: The Champagne of Tea

Darjeeling tea is often called the “Champagne of Tea” because its character is closely tied to a specific origin, elevation and harvest season. Like Champagne from France, authentic Darjeeling tea is only grown in the Darjeeling region. Organic Darjeeling is truly Indian tea at its finest. 

Not unlike the difference between a good vintage from Prevance and that from the Rhône, other Himalayan teas, such as those from Nepal, are also prized for their unique, high-elevation terroir and traditions.

How to Enjoy Himalayan and Other Organic Indian Teas

While each will come with recommended preparation instructions, you may also have your own personal preferences and tastes. While a high-quality sachet is known for convenience, loose leaf tea can give you more freedom to explore the art of brewing tea. A gaiwan, gongfu teapot or tea cupping set allows the leaves to open fully and reveal different aspects of the infusion over multiple steeps.
