Chill Out with Organic Iced Tea

When you’re looking to cool down in the summer, nothing is quite as refreshing as an excellent tea brewed over ice. From fruity botanicals to energizing green teas, Rishi Tea & Botanicals has a wide selection of excellent teas ready to be served cold. We carry numerous tea varieties built to cater to any palate, like citrus-forward herbal and rooibos blends, fresh and bright mint options, and bittersweet and aromatic botanicals that pair well with mixed drinks. Find a new favorite flavor of loose leaf iced tea to keep you cool.

How to Brew Rishi Iced Teas

Brewing over ice is a simple process for making organic iced tea, particularly with hot-steep methods. To brew these teas chilled, follow your tea’s individual brewing instructions, but brew it for an extra minute or with slightly less water, and pour that concentrate over ice. This hot-steep method provides a stronger, although more tannic, flavor which holds up well to the slight dilution of the ice.

For a less tannic, more delicate flavor, consider cold-steeping the tea for a few hours or overnight, and serving it fresh over ice. Cold-steeped loose leaf iced tea does not require additional dilution to achieve proper tea strength, and offers a truer flavor.

Experiment with Flavor

Brewing iced tea at home is the perfect opportunity to get creative and explore new flavor combinations. Try mixing different caffeine-free herbal iced tea blends to craft refreshing mocktails or cocktails that are as fun to experiment with as they are to sip. Don’t forget to finish your iced tea with thoughtful garnishes—fresh mint, seasonal fruit, botanical syrups or a touch of natural sweetness can enhance the profile and bring your blend to life.

FAQs

While all teas can be enjoyed chilled, those with bright, floral or verdant flavor profiles tend to shine over ice. Japanese green teas like sencha, along with floral black teas and fruit-forward botanical blends, are especially well-suited for iced tea or cold brewed preparation.

Sachet iced tea bags work just as well as loose leaf iced tea. Ensure you use additional premium tea bags when brewing your tea depending on the vessel or pitcher to create a strong concentrate. Then simply add an equal amount of water to the concentrated mixture and serve over ice.

If you brew your organic iced tea in large batches, it is best to store it chilled in the fridge, ideally in a glass, ceramic or porcelain vessel. Other materials could affect the flavor of tea.

Teas prepared cold don’t spoil quickly, but their flavor can fade or turn stale over time. For the freshest taste and optimal clarity, store your iced tea in a sealed jar or pitcher in the refrigerator and enjoy within a few days.

Yes, another popular method for brewing a delicious tea beverage is by cold brewing. You can cold brew tea by adding cold water, rather than hot, and your tea of choice to a pitcher and letting it steep. Cold brewing is a slower process than traditional steeping, but results in a more smooth and less bitter flavor.

Iced tea varieties do not inherently contain more caffeine, although longer and more concentrated brewing can result in a stronger cup. Caffeine is more readily extracted at higher temperatures, so brewing loose leaf iced tea at a higher temperature or for a longer period of time will result in a higher concentration of caffeine in your cup. For this reason, cold brew teas can contain less caffeine. If you’re looking for something with little to no caffeine, browse our caffeine-free teas.
