Genmaicha

"Nutty flavoured green tea. Not too strong. A sweetish aftertaste, with hints of caramel -- that's probably the roasted rice." - Alex S.

Toasty and sweet with a refreshing bittersweetness, this traditional Japanese blend of roasted sticky rice and sencha brews into an easygoing cup that always hits the spot.

A comforting toasted rice green tea with a rich, nutty flavor that satisfies sip after sip

Genmaicha traces its roots to Japanese Buddhist monks who would pour green tea into the bottom of their cauldrons after serving rice so as not to waste even a single grain. From that resourceful practice came one of Japan’s most beloved and humble everyday teas: a rustic blend of green tea and roasted rice.

Our loose leaf Genmaicha blends hearty summer-flush sencha with roasted sticky rice for a perfectly balanced savory, nutty, bittersweet flavor. The starch from the rice naturally tempers the polyphenols in green tea, resulting in a wholesome cup that’s gentle on sensitive stomachs and ideal for easing into the day.

Genmaicha is a combination of toasted rice and green tea. The roasted sticky rice adds a sweet and nutty flavor to balance the green tea’s verdant taste. If you love the fresh taste of green teas, our Matcha Genmaicha blends premium matcha with regular Genmaicha for an elevated flavor.

How should I store Genmaicha?

This toasted rice and green tea doesn't require any special storage, but it’s important to store it properly to protect the quality. You can keep this loose leaf tea in the resealable packaging it came in and store it away from direct sunlight, moisture, heat and strong smells. Make sure to gently press any excess air out of the bag after use.

What is the best way to enjoy Genmaicha?

This toasted rice green tea is a popular blend to enjoy at any time of day due to its lower levels of caffeine. Most green teas naturally contain medium to high amounts of caffeine, but Genmaicha is on the lower side. Our loose leaf Genmaicha is a great tea to brew later in the day when you need a moment to breathe, or as a smooth drink to start your morning.

    A Special-tea

I have loved Genmaicha for years and this one is so delicious, worth trying if you never have. The toasted rice make for a unique flavor. This is not a daily tea for me. I drink it when I want something different. But it certainly may be some tea lovers' first choice.

    Great Rice Contribution

Rishi's rice grains are the best. Nutty. Sweet. The green tea they paired it with is fine but not as remarkable. I'd buy it again.
