"A great representation of the sencha style with medium-large leaf size that steeps very nicely." - Matt B.

A rich and dense infusion with delicious layers of taste featuring sweet, salty, tangy and deep umami notes. The flavors are balanced and harmonious with the aroma of Nori.

This Uji sencha crafted from the Yabukita cultivar is shade-grown and lightly steamed. It has a rich and dense infusion with delicious layers of taste featuring tangy, sweet, salty and deep umami notes.

The flavors are balanced and harmonious with a classic Uji Sencha fragrance that Japanese tea tasters refer to as Nori Ka, or the aroma of nori. The savory, umami, oceanic and slightly tangy flavors of dashi and nori are energizing and refreshing.

This Uji Sencha shines whether iced, cold brewed or traditionally prepared. Wazuka is located approximately 9 miles southeast of Uji City in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. It is situated in a mountainous area surrounded by forested hills and lush greenery, providing an ideal environment for tea cultivation. Its close proximity to Uji City allows Wazuka to be part of the broader Uji tea production region, benefiting from the same climatic conditions and rich tradition of tea cultivation that Uji is known for.

Tea cultivation in Wazuka began in the early 13th century, around the time tea growing spread throughout Japan from Ujitawara. The Uji region, including Wazuka, became known for its tea production through the influence of Zen Buddhist monks, who introduced tea seeds and cultivation techniques from China.

In the mid-18th century, sencha loose-leaf green tea was born in Uji and quickly adopted in Wazuka. Over the centuries, Wazuka has developed into one of Japan's premier tea-producing areas, renowned for its high-quality green tea, particularly sencha.

The combination of favorable climate, fertile soil and traditional cultivation methods has allowed Wazuka to maintain its reputation as a significant, high-quality tea-growing region within Japan's officially recognized Uji Cha tea production zone.
