About this tea

Our top grade of organic matcha is made from the first springtime harvest of tencha, savored for its umami sweetness, creamy taste and enlivening energy. Prepare Teahouse Matcha in the traditional, ceremonial manner called Cha No Yu using a tea bowl and a bamboo tea whisk. The traditional cultivation of tencha requires shading the tea garden for 3-4 weeks prior to harvest. This elevates chlorophyll and enhances L-theanine and other stimulating amino acids responsible for matcha's unique bounty of energy.

Kirishima Mountain

Kagoshima, Japan

Kirishima Mountain is an active volcano on Japan's southern island of Kagoshima. The mineral rich volcanic soils of Kirishima Mountain create a perfect environment for growing organic teas. Because Kagoshima is situated in the southern region of Japan, the teas grown here are among the first to emerge during the Shincha season in early spring, sometimes even one full month before the northern regions begin to flush. Kirishima Mountain teas are noted for their lively green color and balance of umami with vibrant green bittersweetness.

    Perfect matcha

I am ruined for ever buying matcha at a coffee shop because nothing is better than making this at home!

Unpleasant army green/yellow color and fishy smell/taste

I got the order in and when I opened it, I was surprised to see the color was much different than expected from reading the reviews. But aside from the color, it SMELLED FISHY and DID NOT taste good. I brewed as instructed exactly from the directions. I've ordered other matches from rishi that tasted awesome and had a much more vibrant color and freshness, which is why I took the risk on the 100g bag! When I reached out via customer service, they basically told me there's nothing they could do. I have them pic proof, order # and what I tasted and saw. Upsetting, because I love some of the other matcha I've gotten here. I just wanted a replacement. This one made my stomach hurt.

    I love Rishi, and....

I love Rishi, and I love their teas. I've been an avid and consistent buyer since 2019. I recommend them to everyone who asks for tea suggestions, and they've factored in to my morning routine for years. However, the prices have consistently increased. I'm a business owner as well, and so to some extent, I understand. The jump from $68 to $78 stung, but I understand the increase in Matcha demand has caused some economical challenges. However, the jump from $78 to $104.50 had me pause, check my past orders, and reconsider purchasing. I'm so disappointed. This is truly quality matcha, but this price feels unrealistic as I look at the bag I paid $78 for a few months ago sitting on my kitchen counter. I concur with Lauren's review, please find a middle ground for those of us that are typically happy and reliable buyers and are willing to pay extra for a quality product - within reasonable limits.
