An invigorating and refreshing Japanese sencha perfect for everyday enjoyment

The most popular everyday green tea in Japan, sencha is traditionally served as a refreshing pick-me-up—either after meals or with light snacks during midday breaks.

Our mid-steamed (chumushi) sencha is full-bodied and sweet, with deep umami resonance and a bold green liquor. We import it directly from organic farms on Kyushu Island in southern Japan, where mineral-rich volcanic soil yields nutrient-dense, highly flavorful leaves. Our sencha’s well-balanced flavor stems from an expertly selected blend of prized cultivars, including the venerable Saemidori and Okumidori varieties.

As one of our classic loose leaf green teas, Sencha is best brewed with a simple infuser or teapot, letting the whole leaves fully unfurl for maximum flavor.

Kyushu Island, Japan

Kagoshima Prefecture is located at the southwest tip of Kyushu (the third largest island of Japan) and is largely mountainous and home to important lumber, fishing and agriculture industries. Much like the rest of Japan, this region has well manicured tea gardens with well-developed irrigation, and farmers follow strict growing procedures to produce this perfect tea bush shape and size.

Based on an 8oz cup of tea made with suggested steeping method relevant to the tea type. An average cup of coffee contains about 90 – 120 mg / 8oz cup.

Water Temperature: 160°F

Leaf to Water Ratio: 10g per 320ml (11oz)

Steep Times: 1st infusion 45 seconds, 2nd infusion 15 seconds

For the best infusions, we recommend brewing this tea in a Kyusu teapot.

    Rishi's Sencha is the standard when it comes to green tea.

    Rishi Sencha tea offers a subtle sweetness to go along with the savory tone of the tea. It has become a staple in my tea cabinet. I've been drinking tea for many decades and am at the point where I only drink Rishi now. The folks at Rishi know their craft!

    I’m hooked.

    2nd order of this one. I’d bought Sencha from another tea supplier. The reviews said it was “THE” place to get premium teas. Wrong. Glad I originally took the chance with Rishi now that I’m a loyal customer.

    This Rishi Sencha is about as perfect a morning tea as I can imagine. It’s my 1st tea each morning.
