About this tea

Sencha is the traditional, daily steamed green tea of Japan. Our Sencha is made from prized tea bush cultivars including Saemidori and Okumidori and is a blend of the first and second flush harvests from organic farms on Kyushu Island in southern Japan. Kyushu's mineral rich volcanic soil, coupled with skillful organic soil management, creates a sweet and full-bodied green tea flavor. This chumushi sencha yields a slightly opaque, bold green infusion with deep umami and juicy mouthfeel.

Kagoshima Prefecture is located at the southwest tip of Kyushu (the third largest island of Japan) and is largely mountainous and home to important lumber, fishing and agriculture industries. Much like the rest of Japan, this region has well manicured tea gardens with well-developed irrigation, and farmers follow strict growing procedures to produce this perfect tea bush shape and size.

Water Temperature: 160°F

Leaf to Water Ratio: 10g per 320ml (11oz)

Steep Times: 1st infusion 45 seconds, 2nd infusion 15 seconds

For the best infusions, we recommend brewing this tea in a Kyusu teapot.

    Rishi's Sencha is the standard when it comes to green tea.

    Rishi Sencha tea offers a subtle sweetness to go along with the savory tone of the tea. It has become a staple in my tea cabinet. I've been drinking tea for many decades and am at the point where I only drink Rishi now. The folks at Rishi know their craft!

    Plastic free packaging.

    This is a great tea. Light and fresh tasting. Need to know if the interior of the self-closing packaging is free of forever chemicals and other plastics. Please advise. Thanks for a great product.

    My 1st experience with a Sencha tea

    The tea is light and earthy. I have been experimenting with adding some Barista Matcha to it, and have been pleased with the results. I also drink for the health benefits.
