About this tea

Ruby Oolong is a special type of oolong tea produced in the Doi Mae Salong mountainous region in northern Thailand. This full-bodied oolong tea is deeply oxidized and slowly baked to bring out complex layers of cacao, raisins, and black cherry with a sublime, elegant structure. The soil in northern Thailand is soft and loamy, providing a concentration of nutrients not found in other oolong tea origins. This lends a unique sweetness and rich viscosity in mouthfeel. Ruby Oolong is an excellent introduction to the world of oolong tea with its deliciously sweet caramelized fruit and chocolate aromas that permeate the air as soon as it is brewed.

Doi (“Mountain”) Mae Salong is a pristine high mountain oolong tea growing region in the far northern borderland in Chiang Rai province. Rich, loamy soil is mostly dirt with some mineral content of potassium and manganese. The soil is fed continuously with fresh high mountain water but also drains easily, providing the perfect growing material for tea trees.

    My first venture into Oolong tea.

    This tea is really wonderful. Having recently gotten into the world of loose leaf tea and different brewing methods , I'm a novice at best .

    Being a "coffee snob" I've been intrigued by the world of tea and the many different varieties. As my journey into this new realm moves along, I found this tea just doing a quick search online.

    I'm really happy with this tea. Its smooth, has a nice color and a very pleasant flavor. Now that I'm getting better at brewing methods , like gongfu and using cups that highlight the different "notes" of various teas, I'm really enjoying this newfound interest! I know I'll be trying other Oolong teas in the future, I think I've found my favorite one, this one!

    I'll definitely be ordering from Rishi Tea & Botanicals , they have given me great tea and customer service

    The tea has changed

    Unfortunately, what was once my favorite tea appears to be no more. If you have an old bag of if lying around, you'll notice that the old one says it's from Doi Mae Salong in Thailand, whereas this new tea is from Doi Wawee. I honestly think this might be an entirely different grower, the taste is so different. I like the tea, honestly, it's perfectly nice, but it's very different. It's much more floral, it almost has a lychee undertone to it. Time to hunt around on reddit for alternatives I guess!

    Wow, this tea is special

    This is my first time trying a ruby oolong and I'm in love. it's fragrant, a little floral and bold. 100% would buy again.
