I bought a pound of the loose leaf jasmine because I have enjoyed the sachets for months. However, when I first tried the loose leaf tea I ordered, I thought something must be wrong. The bag says brew 7g of tea in 12 oz water. That seemed like a lot so I did 5 grams, and it was so bitter and soapy. I kept gradually bringing the amount down but still it didn't taste as good as the sachet. I almost gave up on the tea until I decided to open up one of the sachets and weigh it since they're also designed for 12 oz of water. It was only 2 grams of tea!
In this mad scientist process, I also realized that with such a small amount of tea, I don't think weighing is helpful. Volume-wise, 2g of tea can vary quite a bit because it's such a small amount and can really impact the flavor. Instead, I measured out the tea in the sachet with my teaspoon and learned that there is 1.5 tsp of jasmine tea in one sachet for 12 oz water. Ever since I followed that measurement (with 180 degree water, 3 minutes), my tea has been perfect. Sometimes I also add 1/2 tsp peppermint, but not necessary.
