Milled from the highest quality first flush Houjicha tea leaves, our Houjicha Powder makes impeccable lattes and café drinks. Distinctively smooth with pleasant chocolate, caramel and roasted malt character. Lovely on its own or blended into coffee and tea drinks.

Kagoshima Prefecture is located at the southwest tip of Kyushu (the third largest island of Japan) and is largely mountainous and home to important lumber, fishing and agriculture industries. Much like the rest of Japan, this region has well manicured tea gardens with well-developed irrigation, and farmers follow strict growing procedures to produce this perfect tea bush shape and size.

Traditional Preparation

Stir 1.75oz/50g sweetened condensed milk into 8oz/250ml hot water (200f). Add 2 tsp (5.5g) Houjicha Powder; whisk to combine & froth. Enjoy warm or chill until cold.

    Sadly the worst Houjicha I’ve tried- it has perfume/soap notes

    Best Hojicha I've had (so far)

    I've tried a variety of hojicha powders from different brands. I won't name the brands here, but most of them are very popular matcha brands, and their hojicha powders are very chalky and don't have much flavor. Rishi's Hojicha powder is definitely top tier and grounded find enough that you don't get too much of the powder. Moreover, the flavor is very balanced with a hint of cocoa and caramel taste. It's amazing and a must try! We serve it at our cafe.

    Mellow vibe

    Love the sense of calm this tea gives me. The flavor is earthy and is complemented very well with some cacao, a bit of sweetener, and served latte style.

    First, I love houjicha,...

    First, I love houjicha, so I knew the toasty, roasted notes to expect. I ordered the powder specifically to try to make houjicha lattes. I tried it today the way I make matcha lattes, and it was perfect. Absolutely delightful for an autumn or winter drink.

    I really wanted to like this...

    I was basing my purchase on the description of the taste and how it was reviewed by others. Couldn't get past the smell nor taste. I made a latte with it 3 times and just felt ill after drinking it. Wish there had been the option to sample this.
