Nishi-san's Shincha Saemidori
Vibrant fresh green, deep layers of taste, rich umami and lasting sweetness
About This Tea
The famed Saemidori cultivar translates to “clear green” and is a hybrid of the Asatsuyu and Yabukita cultivars. It is one of the first cultivars harvested each spring and is favored by tea farmers in Kyushu Island for its vivid green color, brightly fresh character, and relative frost resistance in the early spring.
This year’s selection is vibrant and fresh with deep umami and a lasting sweetness. This shincha is an eagerly anticipated spring tea we are happy to share with our tea community.

Renowned throughout Japan as pioneers of organic green tea cultivation, the Nishi family has been our strongest partner for organic sencha and organic matcha since 2006. Every year, the Nishi family produces exclusive allocations of organic sencha and organic matcha for us. This Nishi family grows more than a dozen different green tea cultivars all with unique characteristics and nuances that make our blends really stand out. Our long standing relationship with the Nishi family allows us to select the very best micro-lots and fine tune our sencha and matcha blends each year. The Nishi Organic Tea Farm consists of many different gardens secluded in pine and cedar forests of Kirishima Mountain, an active volcano on Kyushu, Island. The densely forested area where these amazing tea farms are located provides a natural buffer zone that protects the tea gardens from industrial pollution.

I have been drinking green tea for years with Gyokuro being one of my favorites. But this is by far the best. The beautiful green color, no bitterness. Love the mild astringency and vegetal notes.
It’s expensive but truly worth it

I grab a bag or 2 of Nishi-san's Shincha Saemidori each year because I know it'll be full of fresh umami awesomeness.

Love it! Fresh green and full-bodied. I steep it longer and press on the leaves as they absorb alot of water.
