Autumn Grass Tokoname Teaware
Born in 1944, Seihō is a recipient of numerous honors at the Tokai Traditional Crafts Exhibition and the Choza Prize Ceramics Exhibition and has also been entrusted with preparing tea offerings at Ise Gekū Shrine—an acknowledgment of this significant contribution to Japanese tea culture.
Showcasing Seihō’s remarkable command of form and surface, as well as his deep love of nature, this yokode kyusu, yuzamashi serving pitcher and teacup (sold individually) are hand-decorated with brushed clay slip, allowing botanical motifs to emerge through high-temperature firing.
Using a brush made from grass grown in his own garden, Seihō hand-signs his pieces while holding a beautiful vision in mind: “I am not just imagining a mountain. I’m imagining a mountain on a beautiful spring day as I am walking with the person I love.”
To maintain purity of flavor and avoid discoloration, we recommend dedicating this teaware to the green or white tea of your choice.
