Beginning in the 1970s, the king of Thailand offered Chinese refugees—who had fled the mainland after the Civil War—a path to citizenship in return for helping stabilize the region’s economy. Through ties to the wider Chinese diaspora, these communities introduced centuries-old Taiwanese oolong cultivars and tea-making traditions to the mountains of northern Thailand, shaping what is now one of Southeast Asia’s most respected oolong-producing regions.

Our Ruby Oolong is rooted in this history, cultivated by Chinese tea producers whose families have farmed these mountains for generations. Here, in the old-growth tea gardens of Doi Mae Salong, the soft, loamy soils develop nutrient-dense, uniquely flavorful leaves.

Once harvested, the leaves undergo deep oxidation and low, slow baking—a labor-intensive process that unfolds across a week or more. Withered, then tossed and shaped by hand, the leaves develop dark, fruity aromatics and a deep, layered character, revealing new, captivating facets with each cup.

    My first venture into Oolong tea.

    This tea is really wonderful. Having recently gotten into the world of loose leaf tea and different brewing methods , I'm a novice at best .

    Being a "coffee snob" I've been intrigued by the world of tea and the many different varieties. As my journey into this new realm moves along, I found this tea just doing a quick search online.

    I'm really happy with this tea. Its smooth, has a nice color and a very pleasant flavor. Now that I'm getting better at brewing methods , like gongfu and using cups that highlight the different "notes" of various teas, I'm really enjoying this newfound interest! I know I'll be trying other Oolong teas in the future, I think I've found my favorite one, this one!

    I'll definitely be ordering from Rishi Tea & Botanicals , they have given me great tea and customer service

    Best Oolong Tea I've Had

    This tea is my favorite tea of all time. It's easy to drink first thing in the morning and doesn't upset my stomach like black teas and some green teas do. I was a coffee drinker most of my like, but now have switched to this beautiful tea with its soft aromas and gentle flavors even for a bold tea like this ruby oolong.

    Favorite Tea

    Still my favorite tea! I love that it's smooth yet complex with a deep robust flavor. I wish I could buy it more often, but the price is crazy. It's at least $10 more from when I first started buying it a few years ago. I only drink it one day a week to make it extra special and to make it last longer.

    Delicious but different?

    I ordered this as a treat to myself, and it's as delicious as I remember it being. I serve it with honey and a bit of oat milk, and it's got a robust flavor profile with a lovely lychee undertone to it. But I thought it was organic? It was when I ordered it two years ago - did something change?
