About This Tea
Our team had the pleasure of getting to know esteemed Tokoname potter Seihō during our 2025 visit to Japan. Seihō has a joyful, magnetic spirit that comes through in every piece of teaware he creates.
Born in 1944, Seihō is a recipient of numerous honors at the Tokai Traditional Crafts Exhibition and the Choza Prize Ceramics Exhibition and has also been entrusted with preparing tea offerings at Ise Gekū Shrine—a testament to his significant contribution to Japanese tea culture.
Featuring a traditional side-handle design, this yokode kyusu showcases Seihō’s remarkable command of form and surface, as well as his deep love of nature. It is hand-decorated with brushed clay slip and fine incised detailing, allowing botanical motifs to emerge through high-temperature firing.
Using a brush made from grasses grown in his own garden, Seihō hand-signs each piece while holding a beautiful vision in mind: “I am not just imagining a mountain. I’m imagining a mountain on a beautiful spring day as I am walking with the person I love.”
Although especially well-suited to Japanese green teas, this collectible kyusu can be dedicated the tea of your choice. Please note that some botanical infusions (especially fruit-forward blends) may cause discoloration or residue buildup over time.

Japan
Located in Aichi Prefecture, Tokoname has a rich ceramic tradition dating back to Japan’s Heian period (794–1185). Known as one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, the city is famous for its handcrafted kyusuand ceramic shrine statues. Beckoning cat figures (maneki-neko) are a signature sight in Tokoname and are thought to bring good fortune to the residents and travelers who cross their path.
