About

This classic black tea is the namesake of Charles Grey, Britain's Prime Minister during the 1830's. After saving the life of a Chinese nobleman, the Earl Grey received a gift of citrus blossom-scented tea traditionally known as Tai Tai Cha. Tea salons throughout Europe replicated this blend by "perfuming" black teas with the aromatic oil of Italian bergamot oranges. Thus, a timeless tea was born.

The Bergamot Orange is a special variety of intensely tart, aromatic and bitter citrus that grows in Calabria, Italy. It has a one of a kind aroma and is harvested for its essential oil which is cold pressed in an ancient and natural way. The essential oils are used in confections, liquors, ice creams, medications to control cholesterol, sodas, tonic waters, perfumes and cosmetics. Most notably, Bergamot Citrus is the key ingredient of Earl Grey Tea. Rishi Earl Grey only uses the pure, cold pressed essential oil from Italian Bergamot and unlike other Earl Grey teas in the market , we never use flavors, extracts or imitations.

    Best in a Blind Tasting of 6-7 organic Earl Grey teas

    I did a blind taste test of 6-7 organic Earl Grey loose leaf teas a few years ago and this was by far my favorite. Lots of bergamot flavor and sitting on top of really delicious black tea. That said... I have now found one that I like probably just a little bit more -- Rishi Early Grey Lavender. :-) I buy them both and switch between them each week for a little variety.

    Phenomenal taste

    The Early Grey tea is so smooth and the taste is phenomenal. I’ll drink the Earl Grey in place of coffee and drink my Rishi Green tea later in the day.
