This Yunnan Silver Needles tea is delicately scented with fresh rose flowers at peak bloom, using an ancient technique without added flavors or additives. Grown in the rich red soils of Jinggu, Yunnan, it offers a frosted appearance, nectar-like sweetness, and a refined floral aroma.

The honey sweetness of this white tea is naturally infused with fresh red roses according to an artisan tea scenting recipe that creates an elegant and deeply sweet organic rose tea unlike any other.

About

This tea is produced according to a very old recipe and technique developed sometime in the 1300s. Fresh flowers have very delicate and complex aromas that are easily absorbed by tea. The aromas of flowers are often only found in the fresh flowers at their peak bloom. The art and skill of flower scenting tea relies on timing, manipulation, separation, careful drying and attentive curing. No flavors or additives are used in this organic method of flower scenting white tea.

We chose Yunnan Silver Needles for its sublime sweetness and ability to absorb the essence of fresh rose flowers. This batch of Silver Needles has a deep flavor formed by the big bud Yunnan cultivars grown in the rich red soils of Jinggu, Yunnan. These high elevation gardens flush a bit later in the springtime due to the cooler conditions in the mountains and produce slow-growing and concentrated tea buds that glisten with a frosted appearance, nectar sweetness and noble character.

Yunnan Province is home to some of the oldest tea trees and tea cultures in existence, including the Mengku heirloom varietal teas. Considered the birthplace of tea, the Yunnan Province is mountainous and remote, and the name “Yunnan” translates as ‘South of the Clouds.’

Preparation

3 minutes
Instructions:

Add 6g tea per 320mL (11 oz) water into a glass or porcelain teapot.

Use water cooled to 185°F.

Infuse the first brew for 3 minutes. Repeat several times, brewing until the flavor and aroma of the tea dissipates. Increase the infusion time by 20-30 seconds with each additional infusion. The sweet honey flavor and rosy aroma fills the cup over several rounds of brewing.
