Fully ripe and fruity, classic Darjeeling muscatel with notes of iris & wintergreen

Pussimbing is a classic Darjeeling tea estate with a history spanning more than a century. Nestled among wilderness where river streams and natural springs flow, its tea gardens are shrouded in high mountain mists throughout the year. The estate consistently produces some of Darjeeling's most prestigious organic teas from its steep, sloping valley gardens and has been certified organic since 1994.

The estate's rich biodiversity and healthy soil structure nourish bold, aromatic teas that express the unique character of each harvest. Some vintages reveal rich muscatel sweetness and ripeness, while others are distinguished by the minty, spicy notes that define many of Pussimbing's second flush teas.

According to local legend, a monk named Pasang discovered abundant natural springs and tea in the area. In the local Lepcha language, Pussimbing means "the source of water." The place where the monk found the spring was called Mingoo, meaning "valley hidden in the fog." Today, Mingoo remains one of the estate's most renowned garden divisions.

Pussimbing Estate is located in Darjeeling's Tiger Hill region, where panoramic views of Mount Everest and Mount Kanchenjunga rise above the tea gardens. The estate's high-elevation terroir imparts a vibrant mountain energy and unmistakable character to every cup.

    Layered but subtle.

Taking a smell of the tea in the bag it was a mix of black tea with dried cherries.

After warming up the gaiwan the cherry scent became more noticeable when placing the 3g of tea leaf into the warm gaiwan.

    Brewed with 195f water temp.

First full serving pitcher or 2 to 3 gaiwan's full of tea steeped for 2 minute each steep.

the tea was slightly cherry and had a red tint with a dry mouth feel similar to a green olive.

Second pitcher was brewed with longer 3 minutes steeps and the color was more brown tinted than red and the nutty aspects became more present the cherry wasn't really there as much the drying mouth feel mellowed out as well.

Third pitcher was similar to the second but there was a menthol or cooling mouth that started to show up a feel similar to mint but more subtle.

    Interesting experience but subtle.

The more I use the gaiwan I am finding a mesh strainer over the serving pitcher to really help improve the experience and help with tea's like this

to help catch any small leaf pieces that slip through the gap between the lid and body of the gaiwan as I pour into the serving pitcher. It allows me to try more varieties of teas an ensure a better final result for the cup.

Hi Matthew! Thanks for giving our Darjeeling Second Flush Pussimbing DJ74 a try and for sharing such detailed feedback about your brewing experience. We appreciate how thoughtfully you explored the cherry, nutty, and subtle menthol notes that developed through each pitcher. We recognize that tea is such a personal journey, and understand that while the layered complexity was interesting, the subtlety didn't quite deliver the intensity you might have been seeking. It's great to hear how the mesh strainer has been improving your gaiwan brewing experience! Thanks for sharing tea with us and for taking the time to leave such thorough feedback about your brewing process.
