Uji Gyokuro Secret Garden is a premier gyokuro produced by artisans at Hekisui-en tea company in the Uji region of Kyoto, Japan. Hekisui-en specializes in traditional style matcha and gyokuro using specialty cultivars like Gokou, shaded by tana frame-and-thatch in the old school way. They also sometimes employ a little-known technique of aging and blending multiple vintages of tencha or gyokuro together to create an intensely layered flavor profile. Enthusiasts of Rishi's matcha collection who enjoy our selections of Matcha Houju or Matcha Hekisui, which are also produced by Hekisui-en, will absolutely treasure Uji Gyokuro Secret Garden. The lovely blue-green color of the tea leaves shows how this tea is meticulously shaded to boost chlorophyll and amino acids. As you continue infusing, the tea reveals its complexity with an incredibly deep and reverberating sensation of umami, with rich brothy notes of kombu.
7 grams | 1 tbsp
Add 1 tbsp (7g) tea to a small (150ml/5oz) Kyusu teapot
Use water cooled to 160°F.
Add water to just cover the tealeaves. Infuse for 20 seconds and decant.
Repeat for another 4+ infusions, adding 5 seconds to each.
