Cultivar: Shizu-7132 "Machiko"
Harvest Date: May 17, 2018
Japanese tea enthusiasts will be amazed at the flowery and sweet sakura mochi fragrance in this shincha. The unmistakable, heady cherry blossom aroma is the signature characteristic of the Machiko cultivar, which was developed in Shizuoka in the late 60's and early 70's. Recently, Japanese food scientists have identified the aromatic and antioxidant compound "coumarin" in Machiko tea leaves as responsible for the unique aromatics associated with this cultivar. Our Organic Machiko was cultivated by Mr. Sugiyama, who is the only farmer in Shizuoka that grows Machiko according to certified organic practices.
This 2018 Crop first flush micro-lot offers very special aromatic notes of sakura mochi, cherry blossoms, fresh almonds and anisette cookies with a striking balance of bittersweet and umami. It is very lively and stimulating with refreshingly low tannin and smooth aftertaste.
