Harvest: May 10, 2019
This Yabukita sencha was selected from the Okouchi town in Shizuoka for Rishi by a member of our family - Ryo Iwamoto, the youngest tea master of Urasenka tradition ever and Tea Ambassador of Japan. He was present at the sourcing of other teas in our Garden Direct line, and we are also pleased to offer this tea from his selections. Three main types of steaming are typical in Japanese sencha: asamushi, chumushi, and fukamushi, with asamushi being the lightest steamed and fukamushi being the deepest. This tea is processed as an asamushi, which allows the Yamano Kaori to shine through on the palate. Yamano Kaori is translated as "high mountain aroma" which illustrates the delicate scent obtained through being grown at higher, mountainous elevations. This tea offers a bright yellow infusion with brilliant expression of floral aromas in an elegant structure. Almost like a Bao Zhong oolong, the floral aromas linger long in the finish.
