Description

Himalayan Classic is a distinctive second flush black tea grown at the Jun Chiyabari Tea Garden in eastern Nepal. Situated in the foothills of the mighty Himalayas, this high altitude estate is prized for the aromatic complexity of its teas. Much like in nearby Darjeeling, the tea plants mature slowly over the course of the harvest season, developing wildly floral nuances in the process. These notes are masterfully elicited by the artisans at Jun Chiyabari, who are primarily women—an exception in the tea industry. .

Your purchase of this tea provides micro-finance for impoverished women to launch small businesses in Nepal. Learn more about Rishi's Project Nepal.

Tasting Notes

Lightly malty and smooth with nectar-like flavors of apricot, lychee, wildflower honey and sweet citrus peel dryness that linger in the finish of this easy-drinking cup.

Everyday Brewing

Water to Leaf Ratio
1 tbsp (4g) per 8 oz of water
Water Temperature
195°F
Steep Time
3 minutes

Traditional Brewing

Water Temperature: 195°F
Leaf to Water Ratio: 1 tablespoon (4 grams) per 8 ounces
Steep Time: 3 minutes (1st infusion), 4-5 minutes (2nd infusion)

We encourage you to experiment with the quantity of tea leaves and the length of the steep time to find your desired brew strength. Varying the water temperature isn't recommended, as water that is too hot will over-extract the bitter components of tea, while water that is too cool might not fully draw out the aromas and flavors of tea.

Ingredients

Organic black tea.

Nepal
