A 2017 Garden Direct Series exclusive! This impressive collection features seasonal micro-lots of single-origin teas we source and import directly from artisan tea farmers. Available for a limited time, these handcrafted teas were selected through real time micro-lot tea cuppings during our 2017 origin travels.
This Dong Ding Oolong is from our friend's 15 year old experimental organic tea garden in Nantou, planted with Taiwan Tea cultivar No.13 Cui Yu ("Jade"). This specially cultivated Jade is surprisingly strong. It has the density and body that can be rich like Qingxin with an added layer of fruity nuance fixed with truly artisan baking techniques. This 18 kg micro-lot was baked according to the old methods of Dong Ding. It takes baking multiple times over 5-6 months to ensure the tea will be smooth and satisfying while strong and without a "fire bite " or carbon acridity in the tea liquor. This remarkable tea is noted for good brewing patience and gongfucha performance.
Dong Ding Nantou Special is well balanced and comforting with notes of warm chestnuts, white cherry, nectarine and caramel.
