Vintage 2009 This vintage tea consists of aged shu pu-erh that is compressed into a cake and packed in traditional bamboo leaf bundles called a tong. This reserve pu-erh tea is released only when it is ready. A deep garnet infusion with a dense, opaque liquor bears a mellow sweetness that drinks remarkably smooth with a rich earth body. Best brewed in the Gongfu Cha style using a gaiwan or traditional clay teapot, this is a glorious example of a traditional, compressed pu-erh. Ask which vintage is current. Available in 125 gram individual cakes or in the original wrapped tong pack of seven tea cakes.

Tasting Notes: Mellow and smooth with a pleasantly sweet, earthy flavor.

Ingredients: Organic pu-erh tea.

This tea originates in Yunnan Province, China.
Guywan Brewing Guidelines:

Steep Times: 1st infusion 60 seconds, 2nd infusion 75 seconds, 3rd infusion 90 seconds, 4th infusion 120

Basic Brewing Guidelines:
Water: 212°F (boiling)
Leaf to Water Ratio: 5-6 gram piece per 8-12 ounces
Steep Time: 3-4 minutes

We encourage you to experiment with the quantity of tea leaves and the length of the steep time to find your desired brew strength. Varying the water temperature isn't recommended, as water that is too hot will over-extract the bitter components of tea, while water that is too cool might not fully draw out the aromas and flavors of tea.

Excellent. This is what I think of when I think 'pu-erh' tea. Deep, rich, slightly smelly but not in an offputting way. Just right.

This is a terrific puerh, very deep and complex and remarkably mellow for the strength of the brew. I've been waiting for more arrive!
