Green teas from Xuan En County are prized for their traditional handmade quality so much that they are rarely exported to tea consumers outside of China. Xuan En County is a famous producer of organic medicinal herbs and pesticide-free, fresh produce that Chinese consumers widely cherish. Xuan En County is very important to the development and sustainability of traditional Chinese green and black tea produced according to organic regulations, as many traditional tea-growing areas in China are unable to produce such pristine, clean teas due to the rapid industrial development and pollution spreading throughout China, which affect the quality and organic status of teas from all over China. We feel that Xuan En’s green and black teas represent great quality from the frontier region of Chinese small leaf varietal organic tea production. Rishi Tea is privileged to partner with the Xuan En Yulu Fair Trade Association to produce organic and Fair Trade artisan teas that help support tea-producing villages. These villages have been hand harvesting tea for generations with fair trade funds they need so much to develop their educational opportunities, health care systems and infrastructure.
