This elegantly handcrafted kyusu is named after Shouryu, the artist who crafted it. Shouryu spent years designing and perfecting a new clay type by sourcing special materials and finding the perfect blending ratios and milling techniques. He refined his methods on the potter's wheel to work with this new clay type, resulting in extraordinarily thin and lightweight teapots. The dark color comes from the combination of clay type and lack of oxygen in the kiln. Its beautiful outer appearance and surface shine come from Yohen, a natural ash glaze made with rice husks.
