Schizandra berries are known as “the fruit of five flavors” in China. It is said to have the five primary elements of sweet, sour, salty, bitter and spicy/pungent. The berries can be infused like a tea and provide a very tart and tasty caffeine-free infusion. The aroma and flavor of Schizandra has distinct notes of cranberry, rose, geranium flowers and citrus. An infusion of Schizandra is blushing pink with a soft body and long lingering fragrance. This rare vine fruit also goes well with a bit of honey.
