Kabuse Ushirode, Japanese Teapot from Tokoname

Kabuse Ushirode

Reminiscent of classic Yixing design, pottery master Shimizu Genji-san has elegantly fused a traditional Yixing teapot shape with an antique-style storage vessel lid. This modern rendition of classic design is a true testament to Shimizu Genji-san’s master skill.
The extraordinary quality can be felt when you hold this teapot. It weighs a mere 190 grams (6.7oz) and is perfectly balanced for smooth, quick pouring. In addition to the perfect balance, this hand thrown (potter’s wheel) Yakishime (unglazed natural clay) teapot is equipped with a Sasame (clay mesh screen), giving it the expert function sought by tea masters.
