History:
Ba Xian is a famous type of Feng Huang Dancong. Its history stems from the “Da Wu Yeh,” one of the very old mother Dancong trees of the Zi Lan Xiang (Purple Orchid aroma).
The Da Wu Yeh (Big Dark Leaf) is one of the famous old trees of the Qu Zhai Liao Village, which was named as Ya Hou Village since 1956. In 1898, clones were taken from the Da Wu Yeh and were spread to different places in the Feng Huang Mountain areas.
Eight of the original Da Wu Yeh clones survived in eight different locations and thrived to yield some of the area’s most remarkable batches of tea each season. The name Ba Xian was given to these eight trees as the eight clones’ strength and survival story is similar to the Chinese myth of the eight immortals crossing the seas to preside in eight locations of existence.
The surviving original eight clones and its descendants from the Da Wu Yeh tree became famous for their profound expression of Purple Orchid aroma, “Zhi Lan Xiang.” Today, Ba Xian Dancong is one of the most sought after of all Dancong tea.
Flavor Profile:
The strength and Qi of Ba Xian is profound and intoxicating. This batch is one of our favorites. It has great patience and can be infused many times, offering an intense aroma, complex flavor and stimulating Qi. Our Ba Xian Dancong is prized for its succulent accents of nectarine, peach and tropical flowers that linger for many distinctive and aromatic infusions. The floral and exotic fruity aromas make Ba Xian particularly special for Dancong oolong lovers.
