Cultivar: Fuding Da Hao
Harvest Dates: March 25-27, 2014

This is our top grade Silver Needle of the 1st Flush 2014 crop, with an incredibly smooth and rich umami flavor and fresh, sweet grass aroma. This year's Mingqian Silver Needle is a pure Fuding white tea harvested in the last week of March 2014, just days before the Qingming Festival. The Qingming (or "Pure Brightness") Festival is a traditional holiday celebrated throughout China, during which families pay respects to their ancestors by sweeping their tombs and leaving fresh fruits and gifts to be enjoyed in the afterlife. The Qingming holiday is linked with the Chinese agricultural lunar calendar and marks the coming of spring. Teas harvested before the Qingming Festival are celebrated as the most tender and delicate of the year, nurtured by the clouds and cool mist of early spring. Mingqian literally means "Pre-Qingming," and is a tea term used to denote these exceedingly rare spring teas.

Tasting Notes: Exceptionally smooth pre-Qingming Silver Needle with the signature umami character of Fuding balanced with fresh notes of sweet spring grass

Ingredients: Organic white tea.

Fuding Region, Fujian Province, China

The garden from which Mingqian Silver Needle Reserve is picked is located in an area where hilly and mountainous terrain merges with small coastal plains and endows the tea garden with a unique landscape and micro-climate. This region has a maritime sub-tropical monsoonal climate with warm and humid conditions. The abundant rainfall, sunlight, consistent breeze, wispy cloud cover and fertile soil provide a favorable environment for early spring white tea productions.
Loose Tea: 2 tablespoons dry leaf per 8oz of water
Water Temperature: 185°F Steep Time: 3-4 minutes. This tea can be enjoyed for at least 3 infusions.

Nectar like sweet, but not too sweet. Delicate green grass aroma minus the green flavor associated with it. A tingly mouthfeel and softly dissipating finish. I picked up my empty cup looking for more!
