Unlike ornamental hibiscus flowers, it is the calyx of the shrubby Hibiscus sabdariffa plant that is used for making a tangy-sweet herbal tea that is equally delicious brewed hot or iced. Harvested by hand when plump and juicy, hibiscus makes a full-bodied, crimson colored infusion with a flavor similar to tart cranberry. Hibiscus is used in culinary and drinks recipes by cultures spanning equatorial latitudes from Southeast Asia to the Caribbean.

Tasting Notes: Wonderfully tart and fruity with notes of citrus and pomegranate

Ingredients: Organic hibiscus flowers.

Burkina Faso
Water Temperature: 212°F (boiling)
Leaf to Water Ratio: 1 tablespoon per 8 ounces
Steep Time: 3-5 minutes to taste

We encourage you to experiment with the quantity of tea leaves and the length of the steep time to find your desired brew strength. Varying the water temperature isn't recommended, as water that is too hot will over-extract the bitter components of tea, while water that is too cool might not fully draw out the aromas and flavors of tea.

Wow! I am experimenting with reducing my caffeine intake as a lover of loose tea. This variety is the first Rishi herbal loose tea I have tried. Well, I puckered up and fell in love! This incredibly rich and satisfying tea produces a deep crimson drink that satisfies both my sweet tooth and the tang tooth I didn't know I had! Highly recommended!
