Our finest grade of Dian Hong black tea, harvested from Mengku heirloom varietal tea trees in China's southwestern Yunnan Province, the birthplace of tea. Masterfully oxidized into an auburn color flecked with golden buds, this black tea has an impressive strength, density and refined finish. Golden Yunnan has a richly textured infusion that offers hints of peppery spice, notes of chocolate and sweet lychee with a deep malty finish. This top-shelf black tea is delightful when served straight, and divine with milk and sugar.

Tasting Notes: Malty and rich with a mellow, jammy sweetness and subtle accents of plum and raisin

Ingredients: Organic black tea.

Additional Info: Classic black teas offer a timeless taste of tea's rich history and express a distinct sense of place, determined not only by geography and climate, but also by culture and tradition.

This tea comes to us from the Wa Shan Ecological Tea Garden in Yunnan, China. Explore the tea and landscapes of Wa Shan in Rishi's Travelogue.
Water Temperature: 212°F (boiling)
Leaf to Water Ratio: 1 tablespoon per 8 ounces
Steep Time: 4 minutes (1st infusion), 5 minutes (2nd infusion)

We encourage you to experiment with the quantity of tea leaves and the length of the steep time to find your desired brew strength. Varying the water temperature isn't recommended, as water that is too hot will over-extract the bitter components of tea, while water that is too cool might not fully draw out the aromas and flavors of tea.

This tea pretty much is the basis of the Rishi franchise IMO. It's been available in my Whole Foods for years and never disappoints. Full body without any rough edges this can easily be your daily. It's inexpensive too.

The other Rishi hits you can often find in stores are the Wu Yi, China Breakfast, Silver Needle, Pu-erh Classic, Sencha, Matcha Super Green, and Kukicha. Any of those are usually the best tea you can buy retail. But I would say this is their classic.

I've been drinking this tea for near 20 years, been buying it directly since I moved to a city with no Whole Foods. I have tried many black teas, but nothing touches this one.

My wife and I have been drinking this black tea for years, probably 10 years now, ordered by the pound, every morning. Note that we prefer to allow it to brew for 20 min! more subtle flavor this way.

I purchased a sample of this and am now ordering the larger amount. It is my favorite of the many samples I tried. Also, and possibly coincidentally, I've had a calm, positive feeling "come over me" half an hour to an hour after drinking it. (Around six times now, as I've reused the leaves.) Maybe the first few times were coincidences leading to the expectation, but it's nice anyway.

I discovered this tea loose leaf at Whole Foods, but now buy it directly from Rishi. I have it almost every morning (unless I'm drinking Bulletproof coffee.) It's lovely, full bodied and rich. I use a full tablespoon for about 16oz of water and then a second infusion. I add milk as it's strong, but I don't think it's bitter, ever. Thank you for a great tea.
